Athena
Female, approx 6 yrs

Hello, my name is Athena and I love it that I’m named after a beautiful Greek goddess because—hey!—it’s appropriate! Everyone at The Cat Connection thinks I look a Norwegian Forest Cat with my beautiful fur and large frame so, yep, I’m gorgeous. I had a great life going with my first family. My lady doted on me, loved me, petted me, spent SO MUCH time with me but then the unthinkable (in my book) happened. She had babies. Now, I realize that kids can be great and all but I’m just not that kind of a cat. Kids are not my vibe. They take time away from me. Remember me? The goddess cat?
My family tried hard to convince me to live happily with the kids; we discovered together that it just wasn’t working so they asked the Cat Connection to find me a happier home. Personally, I would have liked the kids to be re-homed but nobody asked and I guess human families need to stay together. If I could shrug my shoulders, I would.
This whole thing has been pretty tough for me. Moving around and meeting new people isn’t easy for me. It takes me at least 2 or 3 weeks to get comfortable in a new place and, because I’m nervous, I might hiss, growl, or even nip a little bit during that time. It took me almost a month to let my foster mom pet me more than just a little bit on my head but now we’re great friends. We cuddle and I purr. I adore having my ears scratched and getting treats. The birds outside my window are endlessly entertaining. I even love to play and chase ribbons all over!
I’m really hoping to find another forever home. I’d love to find a single adult or a couple with grown children where I can be the one and only goddess cat again. I promise I have so much love to give! I just need you to be understanding and cat savvy so that you’ll understand when I decide I’m done with petting for a while or that I don’t much like my tummy rubbed even when I roll over and present it to you like a furry, fluffy gift. I promise to snuggle for the rest of my life!
